The Golden Globes Ceremony is My Super Bowl!

(January 19, 2010)

kate-hudson-gg-2010Awards season has officially arrived!!

amanda-seyfried-golden-globes-hbo-partyFor those of us that live in the Los Angeles, this is a very exciting time of year. During the next couple of months, our favorite celebrities grace the red carpet with couture gowns, beautiful jewels, and and trend setting hair and makeup. As a hairstylist, I find it it is important to keep an eye on all of the styles; the good, the bad, and the ugly. For the next few months, I know that my clients will be bringing in images of cuts, color and styles based on these red carpet starlets. The Golden Globes kicked off the A-List awards season this past weekend and here are my personal picks of those who nailed it, and those who left me scratching my head.

First let me say that I loved the return of the structured updo! Last year it was messy, messy, messy, and I found it so fresh to see young starlets like Kate Hudson, January Jones and Drew Barrymore bringing back the look of structure and sophistication. Very “Old Hollywood”!!!!

Luscious Waves and Sexy Blowouts also made their presence known on the red carpet. I love the idea of the understated yet beautiful look. I felt like it was a great move for Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, Christina Hendricks and Amanda Seyfried. It was fresh, fun and complimented both their jewelry, dress and make-up as a great accessory.  These styles contributed and added to their natural beauty rather than being a distraction.

Messy Up-Does still made their presense known on the red carpet this year. Stars like Anna Kendrick and Courtney Cox kept this look fresh, sexy, touchable and beautiful.

In my opinion, there were a few disappointments this year on the red carpet. Don’t get me wrong I love Sandra Bullock, but I felt like her deconstructed look in conjunction with the purple dress wascourteney-cox-2010-golden-globe-awards just too much. The hair Ana Kendrickwas a little too messy for my personal taste. I also hate to say it to Heather Graham, but no matter how beautiful you are, I personally just feel the red carpet is no place for a pony tail. I don’t really see this look catching on this year.

The biggest thing I took notice of during the Golden Globes was that coiffed and structured hair seems to be making a major comeback!!! I definitely feel this look adds glamour back to the red carpet!

Is this the end of messy, unkept styles???? I guess we have to wait and see what happens next!

Cheers Darlings!!!!
