Odile Gilbert

Years ago I was flipping through a fashion magazine and admired a photograph of hair that had an infinite braid that swung low along the neck with fabric laced througout it. I showed a friend this phtotograph of this hair that I admired so much and he looked in the credits and told me oh yea that is Odile Gilbert.

I had not heard this name before but I had already developed a love for her work and have been inspired by her work not even knowing who she was. I went on to learn more about her career, she has worked with designer’s backstage at fashion shows such as Jean Paul Gaultier, and Givenchy and high end ad campaigns with Chanel and Lancome. She also designed the elaborate look for Sofia Coppola’s movie Marie Antoineete, which I am in love with!

Odile Gilbert is truly an inspration to me. She creates sculptures with hair that I didn’t even know were possible. She inspires me to push myself in my work creatively and incorporate other materials into the hair to create something fantastical.

Below are some photographs of her work that have inspired me the past few years.

Blowdry and Scalp Massage for Just $30

Blowdry PromotionMany of our clients have come to us revealing their fascination with the blowdry bar phenomenon.  And of course, we’re curious too.  So we started asking our clients why would they consider going or why have they gone to a blowdry bar.

The answers have been very revealing.  For some, it is the concept of going to a bar environment to get a blowdry and simply indulging their senses.  For others, it is a convenient way to shampoo and style their hair for the week or an event.  And for others, they didn’t realize they were missing something until they gave themselves the treat of just having their hair blown out.  It was like discovering the benefits of massage.

Whatever the specific reason, it came down to being kind to yourself; taking care of you when it sometimes feels like you are taking care of others ALL DAY LONG!

The one complaint we heard was that it felt like cheating.  Some have actually told us about their new discovery as though it was a confession that would only incur upset in their stylist.  Quite the contrary!  For those of you who’ve let us know, we thank you.  We want nothing more than to provide you exceptional service in all areas – including services of personal care and indulgence.

So we went to work.  We designed a gorgeous massage protocol and trained our staff.  We’ve conducted amazing blowdry clinics to take our service to the next level.  We looked at our prices and slashed them so that it was something you could afford on a regular basis.  It is our contention that you should be able to get everything you need in the realm of your scalp and hair all under one roof.

This holiday season join us for luxurious Blowdry and Scalp Massage with select stylist for just $30.  That way you can get that little indulgence with the same people who manage your color, cuts, extensions, highlights and everything else.  I can assure you that with gorgeous hair and a little peace of mind, you can take on anything during the holidays…even the malls!

From all of us at Studio DNA, we wish you a Joyous and Luxurious Holiday Season!

She Was Such a Unique Beauty

If you haven’t already saw Vogue for October be sure to get a look below. Michelle Williams taking on the role of Marilyn Monroe in her new film that is set to be released soon called “My Week with Marilyn”. In preparation for the film she did this beautiful shoot with Annie Leibovitz, styled by Tonne Goodman, and hair by Oribe.

I really enjoyed this spread with Michelle in Vogue. The styling was phenomnal with retro wardrobe. The feel of the photography was very clean and playful. I really love what Oribe did with her hair, it was set really classy and also had an undone lived in feeling to it in some of the shots that were in the field outdoors.

Here a few of the photos I fancied from the shoot.

Marilyn Monroe will always have a special place in my heart, she was such a unique beauty.

Oribe & San Francisco!

I was lucky enough to take a short trip to San Francisco with Aubrey this past Monday & Tuesday to be part of a workshop with Oribe!

It’s always such an inspiration to be around that man. Here is the thing, HE LOVES doing HAIR and there is nothing more inspiring that someone who loves what they do, let alone someone who shares the same Passion I do. Oribe is one of todays top editorial stylists, working on runways and covers such as Vanity Fair & Vouge, his celebrity clientele include JLo, Scarlett Johanson and so on.

What most blows me away about Oribe is his sense of creativity and he knows who to completely change the structure of someones hair with his tools and his product line.

Here are pictures that highlight my trip.
