The greatest joy I receive from my work is the satisfaction that people leave feeling good about themselves. It has been my experience that this feeling of welfare is due in large part to the intimate relationship formed between Hair Stylist and Client, where ideas are bandied about, feelings are shared and recommendations are exchanged. Studio DNA is an extension of that concept. Studio DNA is a constantly evolving exchange of ideas. At Studio DNA, we intend for people to leave not only feeling good about the way they look, but hopeful and inspired about the world in which they live. Studio DNA is also a great place where I can express myself as an artist and pay it forward to the new artists as they start on this exciting and wonderful journey of Hairstyling. I am truly Grateful.

Malibu Times Magazine

This is the second partnership with Malibu Times Magazine for Aubrey.  This time he worked with Rosie Fuentes (an amazingly talented stylist and make-up artist) who provided gorgeous natural tones to both Jane Leeves and Navi Rawat.  Aubrey also brought his favorite Fashion Stylist, Devon Poer, who did a fantastic job matching outfits with our subjects.

Thank you, Sean, for all of your faith in our team.  We enjoy working with you every time.

Grotesque Glamour Comes to Las Vegas

SignWhat happened in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas – not this time!

Way too much to share about our recent Vegas weekend with Celebrity Hair Artist/Guru Oribe!

I had the honor of attending my second Oribe backstage event recently in Las Vegas. Last year the event was held in New York and just when you thought it could not get any bigger – it did, but then again Vegas can do that to you.

The Palms hotel was hosting this eventa and we knew we were in store for a great weekend when we arrived and saw the sign – 300 hundred of Americas most celebrated Hairstylists coming together to play and make some magic with Oribe.

Day 1 – We all arrived at Rain Nightclub at The Palms Hotel where we were met with a fabulous piano player dressed like Lady Gaga on a white grand piano belting out some cool tunes.  Soon after we all settled in, Oribe took center stage much to everyone’s excitement.  He then declared that this weekend would be called Grotesque Glamour (I love a good oxymoron) – clearly insprired by Lady Gaga who Oribe has been working with in creating some of her fabulous looks.

He brought three models onto the stage setting up to work on them silmataneously – very exciting. Oribe ended up giving us three very different looks which certainly expressed the Grotesque Glamour he was talking about. This weekend was all about stepping way out of the box and having a really good time doing so. After the models were done we all got to get a closer look – Fabulous!! It got us all very excited about the hands on workshop the next day.

Day 2 – We arrived at The Palms ballroom with our equipment in tow. After checking in we walked into the ballroom where 300 models were waiting to get their glam on – WOW so cool.

Dane from Studio DNA Beverly and I were the two stylists doing the hands on portion for Studio DNA. We found our models and instantly had a connection, which is very important when you are about to spend the next 6 hours doing some crazy stuff with them! Soon after, Oribe took to the stage and got the ball rolling with his model. Our first look was to take or models hair and get in into a skull cap and then place a fabulous blonde wig over it, securing it tightly to make sure it stayed on all day. Oribe showed us some tricks he learned from Diana Ross who showed him on how to properly secure a wig! Imagine a room filled with 300 hundred blonde models – a straight man’s dream come true! We were then introduced to the new Oribe texture spray which we got to use on our model and Oribe wanted us to tease the wigs as big as we could possibly get them, and we did!

Our next look, we were given the freedom to cut the hair however we wanted and I opted for an asymmetrical barbarella type look.

Our last look ws inspired by the 30’s . We brushed our wig out and placed a hairnet over the wig and using the new Oribe Soft Lacquer spray, we molded into finger waves to get our 30’s look – and you may be asking well what happened to the “Grotesque glamour” – well here it is……. Give 300 hairstylists body paint and tell them to create whatever they want and that’s what you are going to get!

Boy-George-sentenced-to-15-months-in-jailOur day ended up back at Rain nightclub where we became the audience, standing on the side of the runway waiting for 300 of our models to strut their stuff and show off our work – it was Amazing!

Who would of thought something like “Grotesque Glamour” could ever exist? Well it has and it does and I thank Lady Gaga for reminding us, although it may not be for everyone – Glamour is in the eye of the beholder.

Thank You Oribe and his team for giving us another inspiring weekend!
