California Dreamin…

Once again, so happy to be back at Studio DNA in Santa Monica! Summer is officially here, while I hear it’s been a lil’ muggy, I think I’m bringin’ the sunshine back where it belongs! As it has been hot & sunny here in NYC, but will be glad to escape the humidity!

So real quick, just want to share some inspiration and trends I’m really into at the moment:

Rachel Bilson ombre hair#1: Ombre hair coloring! If you haven’t experienced it, now is the time. It’s a way to be edgy & different with your color placement rather then the color itself. Think more lived in, beachy, low-maintenance, sun-kissed. It’s the perfect summer look. You’ve seen it on celeb’s such as Sarah Jessica Parker who’s been rockin’ it for years now! Rachel Bilson just recently came on the scene sporting the new trend and of course we have the ladies of ‘The Hills’ sporting the ever so California look. It doesn’t just have to be on blonde’s, it’s perfect for a brunette beauty who wants something different.

#2 Long Hair, Long Layers-Of course with the perfect Ombre color goes the perfect cut. I’m really into ‘Bohemian Chic’ or embracing the ‘Hippie’ in you. Yup, Woodstock is back! With all the global climate changes, and society going green, the looks this season are more Organic and subtle is the word. Long layered textured haircuts accentuate the Ombre coloring and vice versa. You can achieve this with a Straight Razor haircut, removing weight & bulk in just the right places. Nothing better to compliment your long locks then some bangs! Whether they are full and swoop to the side or center-part and wave out to open your face up, a soft versatile bang cut with a razor makes for the hottest haircut!

#3 If your a short hair kind of girl, razor haircuts are just your look. You have the versatility of smoothing it out with textured pieces, or wearing it natural and the letting the texture accentuate any natural wave or curl you have.

#4 Styling: My personal favorite style right now, on & off the runway is the classic ‘braid’…this style has blessed the Summer 2010 runway looks of Alexander Wang & Miu Miu, compliments to the wonderful Orlando Pita, and thank you to the amazing Guido Palau for the gorgeous Kasia Struss in the January 2010 US Vogue

#5 Last but not least, fresh from Vegas & Oribe (well actually not that fresh, I joined Mizu & Studio DNA in April for Oribe’s Annual Event, introducing their latest products! My favority being the New DRY Texturizing Spray!)

Products, Products, Products!!! I love them, I always say that in order to achieve salon style, you have to use Salon Professional Products! You are only as good as your tools!

For those crazy summer nights, I am obsessed with Oribe Anti-Humectant/Humidity Spray. Spray a lil’ all over after blowdrying for a light shine, define layers and some added protection from the summer frizz. Also works great as a heat styling tool when using a flat-iron or curling iron..

My second summer best is Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray mixed with a lil’ Bb. Grooming Creme. This is your sure to look beachy cocktail. The best part is no need to wash, the products get better with the days.

Studio DNA offers my fav’ product picks and I can’t wait to see some old’ friends & faces, as well as make some new ones!

Happy Summer All!

xoxo

Her and Her Nails

A Blogger (a gorgeous one no less) posted this great pieces on  her latests service with Angela from Mizu New York (and now Studio DNA once a month).  She writes:

“If you know me, you know I change my hair a lot. And that I have a slight complex with never quite being happy. (I’m working on it). But even with all the changes, I’ve never been SHORT short.

But here I am. all chopped off—and I love it! Complements of bi-costal celebrity stylist Angela Soto.

Angela works at Mizu New York and at Studio DNA in Santa Monica.  She is available for individual appointments at the Salons, but is also highly experienced in editorial and runway work.  Be sure to check her out and tell her Melinda sent you. (P.S. These pics are with my styling—it was even cuter when she did it.”

Back to Los Angeles!

I am so excited to return to LA and get to work with such an amazing team! The chance to be bi-coastal has been a dream in the making. To be able to live in New York but also return to my roots regularly in So.Cal is the best!

It seems just yesterday I ran into Rosie here in NYC and she introduced me to Aubrey and before you know it, it was like family!

Fashion Week was a blast, and I was so happy to be a part of bringing the Mizu Artistic Team together with Studio DNA and creating some amazing shows together.

I can’t wait to see some veteran clients of mine from back in the day, and can’t wait to meet some new fresh LA faces!

See you soon!

Angela PhotoAngela Soto from Mizu New York will be working in Santa Monica on March 26th and in Hollywood on March 27th. Both days her schedule will be 10am to 6pm.

As many of you know, we went to New York for NYFW. The opportunity brought so many unexpected surprises. One of the more pleasant surprises was working with Angela Soto and her team from Mizu New York. We worked together like it had been 20 years together in the trenches.

That is why we are so very honored to have Angela working with us from New York on a monthly basis. Angela will be working in our salon as a Level 3 Stylist and eventually as a guest artist and educator. We look forward to a long future with Angela and Mizu New York. I know you will love her as much as we do!
