Moroccan Oil Featured in NYLON Magazine

nylonPicture nylon magazine

In the July 2011 issue of NYLON magazine Bethany Cosentino (frontwoman of the band Best Coast) talks about why she loves Moroccan Oil. Bethany says, “When I’m performing, I’m always tossing my hair around and sweat creates curl, but the moroccan oil helps to keep my hair straight and it doesn’t poof up all crazy!”

I could not agree with Bethany Cosentino more! especially for summer Moroccan Oil works wonders at keeping hair moisturized and the poof under control. we now carry a new size of moroccan oil that comes with a pump too!!

Quick and Easy Summer Styles

With summer just about here its important to know what to do with that hair.  Here are a couple of quick and easy styles that will allow you to spend all of your time in the sun, not stuck in front of the vanity.

The Side Braid

How to:

(1) Using your hands, work a golf ball–size dollop of mousse through dry hair. Try Sebastian “Mousse Forte” on wavy hair, or Sebastian ”Thickefy Foam” on fine.

(2) Finger-tousle hair for fullness.

(3) Gather strands under one ear, braid, and secure with an elastic.

(4) Lastly, gently tug on the braid working from the bottom of the braid up to create a more relaxed look.

soft texture and relaxed style are the key elements of this style.

The High Bun

How to:

(1) Spritz a texturizing spray, like Oribe “Dry” Texturizing Spray on dry hair, scrunching sections to create body.

(2) Gather hair into a high ponytail so it rests at the very top of your head. Secure with an elastic and use bobby pins to tack up shorter strands in back.

(3) Gently tousle the ends, randomly twisting them under and pinning them around the ponytail’s base. For longer lengths, create a loose bun and secure with pins.

The knot’s location—at the crown of the head—draws attention to the eyes and the cheekbones, giving your face an instant lift.

The Perky Ponytail

How to:

(1) Spritz a texturizing spray, like Oribe “Dry” Texturizing Spray on dry hair to create texture.
(2) Section off the top middle 2 inches, then put the rest of your strands in a high ponytail.
(3) Tease the loose top section, finger-rake it back, and gently wrap it around the existing pony and securing the loose end with a bobby pin.
(4) Spritz the tail with hairspray and rough up with your hands to create a tossled look. Try Sebastian “Re-Shaper”.

Whats in your purse?

Here are my favorite beauty products that are with me at ALL times!  Send us pictures of what is in your purse and we will feature it on our blog!  Have fun with it!  Send it to studiodnabeverly@aol.com

Camera Effects

(1) Dermalogica antioxidant hydramist ($37 at Studio DNA): This product is great to keep your skin refreshed and hydrated throughout the day. Contrary to popular belief, the leading cause of oily skin is dehydration. What your skin does is it will fight agains drying by sending out excess oils to “hydrate” when all it really needs is water. Keep your skin properly hydrated with a moisturizer (try Dermalogica Sheer tint with spf 15), this mist during the day, and plenty of water.

(2)  Polaris pressed mineral blush in bronze glow ($25 at Studio DNA): Bronzer is the easiest way to look younger and more alive. This bronze glow blush goes right on top of my tinted moisturizer on my cheek bones up to the temples, chin, and forehead (everywhere the sun would naturally bronze you).

(3) Sonia Kashuk bristle hair brush ($14.99 at Target): This brush is a more affordable version of the classic Mason Pearson brush. It is the best way to fight seperation throughout the day and to move oils from the roots throughout the midshaft. The small size of the brush is great for blow drying bangs sleek and focusing on sections with precision.

(4) Sojourn monoi oil ($26 at Studio DNA): Monoi oil is a lightweight oil that I use on wet or dry hair. The oil moisturizes and smooths dry unruly hair and seals the ends for a polished look. During the day I will take a small amount and run it through the ends of my hair first and then through all of it to smooth frizz.

(5) Polaris lip gloss in lily ($18 at Studio DNA): Lip gloss is a must in any womans purse! My choice is this one because the soft pink color adds a youthful flirty look that looks great alone or on top of a lip color.

(6) Large Bobby Pins ($4.29 at Sallys Beauty): Having a few large bobby pins that match the color of your hair is a safety net for anything that may come your way. You can quickly pin up hair that has gotten heavy throughout the day, pin back bangs that may be getting oily, or just to throw it all up to stay cool. I recommend the large bobbys rather than the small because they are easier to work with and they are much stronger.

 (7) Oribe dry texturizing spray (purse size $19.50 at Studio DNA): This may be my favorite purse product!! Dry spray on clean hair will give your hair body and grit for great texture. The same spray on half-day-old hair will soak up the oils that have produced…giving you fresh morning hair again. I also love that this product now comes in the small size to easily fit into any purse.

Cut It Off # 9

the new SHAG

First seen in the 60’s on rockers, Carol Brady in the ’70s, Joan Jett in the ’80s, and Meg Ryan in the ’90s the shag is back and getting better with length. The best example in the past couple years is worn by Model Freja Beha Erichsen, who first got attention for her unkept layers when she went from long to above the shoulders in 2009 . Erichsen works the shag in a messy/unkept way. She has proven that this famous cut also works while growing it out at every length. while the cut may convey toughness, its tousled layers are also very sexy. The new shag is undeniably my favorite cut right now going into spring/summer.
